  • Vitra Vitra Design Museum - Sunflower Clock by George Nelson
Constructed from a wide array of materials while exhibiting eye-catching sculptural shapes, these wall clocks are a vast departure from the ordinary and prosaic wall clock. Featuring the bold and impressive modern design of George Nelson, these clocks ascended into popularity in the 1950s and still resonate with many people who are looking for an alternative from the mundane timekeepers. With their meticulous attention to detail in the pursuit of true-to-original form, The Vitra Design Museum is presenting a re-edition of the Sunflower Wall Clock. The majestic Sunflower Wall Clock with its dazzling design will make a great addition to any room. Considered by many to be one of the founding fathers of American Modernism, George Nelson produced some of the twentieth century's most highly regarded pieces of industrial furniture. After receiving bachelor's degrees in Architecture and Fine Arts from Yale in 1931, Nelson lived in Rome and traveled throughout Europe where he met many of the modernist pioneers. In the 1940s he collaborated with many distinguished designers such as Ray and Charles Eames, Harry Bertoia, Richard Schultz, Donald Knorr and Isamu Noguchi. Along with his engaging wall clocks, some of his other best known designs are his Marshmallow sofa and the coconut chair. Boasting their timeless aesthetics and historical relevance, the re-editions of these classic wall clocks are featured in the Vitra Design Museum. Designed by: George Nelson, 1958 Features: -Birch/black finish -Battery operated -Authentic re-edition of the 1958 George Nelson classic -Built using original documents and specifications from the George Nelson Archive -Excellent for large rooms -Overall Dimensions: 29.5" Diameter Design: -Design is the process by which almost all objects in Vitra's surroundings are instilled with a specific design and function - from cars to paper clips, from clothing to chairs. And design does not just mean giving things a shape. Design creates the basis which enables things to function in the desired manner. It is a process in which complementary but often mutually contradictory requirements have to be met (comfort, technology, ergonomics, ecology, economics, aesthetics). Design can be successful only when the balance of all these factors is attained. Quality: -Once in the factory, Vitra staff manufacture furniture to precise standards, individually ensuring the quality of each product. -Vitra has been certified for DIN EN ISO 9001 : 2000. -Vitra's focus on quality does not end at the factory door - they believe that providing clients with exceptional service is just as important as manufacturing furniture. In order to make certain Vitra clients enjoy consistently high quality in all Vitra products, they have set up their own test center which monitors products against criteria that are far more stringent than the statutory standards. Ergonomics: -Ergonomics is an applied science that studies the relationship between human beings and machines. Vitra produces furniture that responds to the ergonomic requirements of the body and as a consequence has a positive effect on health and well-being. All Vitra products (except for the experimental series Vitra Edition) have been tested by independent institutions. They comply with prescribed standards under the European Directive on VDU Work and are marked with the GS seal (= Gepr?fte Sicherheit or Tested Safety, seal of the independent certification company LGA). Ecology: -Vitra's contribution to ecological conservation does not stop with a close examination of materials and processes. All aspects of the company's - 1,085.00
